Airport expressway: now buy tokens with your credit cards:
Within a couple of days, you will be able to use your credit card to buy tickets or to top up your monthly travel card in order to ride on the swanky Airport Express Metro. Reliance Infrastructure, the company that operates the 23-km-long Airport Metro line, has decided to install debit or credit card swiping machines at each of the six Metro Stations.
The catch, however, is that the machine would not accept any transaction less than Rs.100. The journey between the first and the last station of the Airport link, i.e from New Delhi Railway Station to Dwarka Sector 23, cost Rs.100. Therefore, only those passengers who travel the entire stretch would be benefited.
Travelers would be able to use their Visa, Master and Maestro debit or credit cards of any bank to buy travel tokens and also top up their travel cards at the ticketing counters at the stations. Reliance Infrastructure officials said that soon they will start accepting credit or debit cards issued by American Express bank as well. “The acceptance of credit or debit cards at Metro stations will save commuters from the hassles of currency changes. Commuters will also get transaction receipts if they buy or top up travel tokens or card with the use of plastic money,” said a spokesperson of Reliance Infrastructure, the concessionaire company. Each station will have two machines.
“Currently, we are introducing the system of buying tokens or recharging smart cards through credit and debit cards. Within a few months, the service will be available online and one would be able to top up his travel card with the use of credit or debit card while sitting at home,” said a source of Reliance Infrastructure.
